{short description of image}

The NKB Slim-3 is a 3 component sensor capable of measuring lift, drag, and pitching moment of wind tunnel models. It is available in a variety of force-moment envelopes, and may be customized to suit your needs. Its dimensions (2 in. high x 4 in. long x 0.6 in. thick) enable the use of a thin strut to minimize tunnel blockage. It is an excellent, low cost alternative to in-line multi-component sensors. Models may be mounted directly to the sensor, or be mounted on an optional sting, which is attached to the top of the sensor.

The Slim-3 sensor is designed to be mounted at the top of a Fixed Strut, to maximize the accuracy of lift and pitching moment measurements.

Data acquisition systems and Calibration systems customized for this sensor are also available.

The NKB Rock sensor is available with either 3 or 5 components. The 3 component sensor is capable of measuring lift, drag, and pitching moment, while the 5 component model also measures side forces and yawing moment. Both are available in a variety of force-moment envelopes, and may be customized to suit your needs. It is designed to be used where aerodynamic loads or model weight exceed the capacity of the Slim-3 sensor

The Rock sensor is designed to be mounted at the bottom of a Fixed Strut, below the tunnel floor. A windshield covering the strut is recommended to eliminate tare forces due to strut drag.

Data acquisition systems and Calibration systems customized for this sensor are also available.

NKB Sidewall Sensor viewed from outside the tunnel

The NKB Sidewall sensor is available with 3 or 5 components in 3 load envelopes. Three component models include measurement of drag, lift, and pitching moment, with roll and yaw included in the five component models. Load envelopes are listed below.

Components  Loads
Drag  10 Lb  25 Lb  50 Lb
Lift  10 Lb  50 Lb  75 Lb
Pitch  15 In-Lb  45 In-Lb  75 In-Lb
Roll  5 In-Lb  25 In-Lb  35 In-Lb
Yaw  20 In-Lb  45 In-Lb  75 In-Lb

The Sidewall sensor includes the capability to vary angle of attack ±30°.

BOUNDARY LAYER DRAG SENSOR

The NKB Boundary Layer sensor is designed to be mounted in the floor of a wind tunnel, and is used for direct measurement of boundary layer drag forces. This two component sensor also enables the user to calculate the lateral location of the force vector.

Sensor Construction

  • Machined from TI 6AL-4V Titanium
  • Semiconductor strain gages
  • Natural frequency of 1 kHz
